History of Fleur De Lis Law & Title
Discover our journey from inception to present
January 2004 - August 2005
Jeff started his career at a small firm in One Canal Place. This firm, which handled various transactional matters, included a small title company called Fleur De Lis Title. Its name came from Fleur De Lis Street in Lakeview, which is where the owner of the firm grew up.
Jeff worked there until Hurricane Katrina hit, causing him to lose both his home and his job. He learned the hard way that keeping all his eggs in one basket was a dangerous game to play.
October 2005 - October 2006
Post-Katrina, Jeff worked for Patrick Quinn and Decatur Hotels. This is where Jeff first began to learn the ropes of handling large real estate deals and financing. During this time, he commuted from Ponchatoula to the French Quarter daily.
While overseeing every aspect of the process from construction management to property management (including physically kicking looters off of properties), Jeff learned a valuable lesson: No one cares about your law degree when they are trying to kill you.
October 2006 - July 2011
Jeff worked at Leader Title Company while simultaneously serving as Ponchatoula City Prosecutor and 21st JDC Juvenile Public Defender. Though he started in a one-room office with one staff member, Leader Title’s Ponchatoula office soon expanded to two staff members with 25+ closings a month--all while handling the marketing, abstracts, and office management tasks. Lisa Ellis joined the team in 2008.
July 2011 - 2016
Jeff acted as owner and operator at Fleur De Lis Title Company. In 2015, he decided to leave behind political races, prosecutor, and defender work to focus full-time on his title company.
2016 - Present
Amidst the 2015 TRID changes to the industry, Jeff had a big idea: if we could take some of the unnecessary work off their plates, our attorneys would have more time to market and build lasting relationships with clients. Stephen Scherer joined the team to head up abstracts and examinations.
Jeff's idea worked, as evidenced by a 1,130% increase in Fleur De Lis Law &Title's annual Remittance to Fidelity since 2017.
